2001-11-09 - 5:53 p.m. It is COLD here! Explain this to me: a country with cameras on cell phones and computers in cars but no central heating. I spent the day at work in my scarf and coat in the teacher's room -- and that was warm compared to the hallways, or God forbid, the bathroom. However, I can already see that commenting about how cold it is (including talking to one's self about the cold, asking others to affirm how cold it is, and asking if others are cold) will be major wintertime conversation. If you'll remember, summer small talk consisted of commenting on how hot it was. What would everyone talk about if the country was climate controled? Today's school lunch was vegetable curry, rice, asparagus and broccoli and a packet of mayonaise. You guessed it -- the mayo was the topping for the vegetables. It was a rather egg-y mayonaise, as opposed to Dutch mayo, which is creamier, American mayo, which is suspiciously fluffy, and Croatian mayo, which comes in a tube and is just sublime.
